Analysis Of Maya Angelous The Caged Bird - 1219 Words

The Soul is Fearless â€Å"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.†- Jennifer Lee. What does it mean to pursue what sets you soul on fire? Is it the feeling you get when you are about to do something you have longed for? Or is it something completely different? Could we just realize that even with every step we take we should be going where we desire to be? As people we should all come to the terms that what we do will not make everyone happy in the long run. In Maya Angelous poem â€Å"The Caged Bird† we can see a few different perspectives on failure and success. Langston Hughes poem â€Å"Mother to Son† gives a relentless speech to her son explaining her difficulties in life. He is going to be the best and if isn’t he won’t be afraid to try. Mother to Son by Langston Hughes gave me the feeling of success under a very hard time. Mrs. Hughes showed us huge disparity in her words as long as hard work done right. â€Å"Well, son, I’ll tell you: Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It’s had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor— Bare. But all the time I’se been a-climbin’ on,† (Hughes). I feel like even though the character in the poem was having a really rough time in her life she never gave up. She kept going. Langston Hughes also said â€Å"And sometimes goin’ in the dark Where there ain’t been no light. So boy, don’t you turn back. Don’t you set down on the steps ’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.† (Hughes). Why would you want to settle for something when you can have something so much better? I questioned that and realized you don’t have to settle. If you donâ€℠¢t settle but, you keep going you can have it all. I don’t understand why someone would settle for average when you can go beyond the limits and expectations. Do you want to be something? Next time, ask yourself that question when you feel like giving up. I have made some decisions in my life. Have I regretted some? Yes.
